If you need prescription lenses, the Crossbow's nosepiece is designed to accept an integrated prescription lens carrier. This unique design allows you to take the optional ESS prescription lens carrier (two different carrier models are available) to your eye care professional, and have them insert your prescription lenses into the carrier. The carrier itself then snaps into place on the nosepiece. As the RX carrier sits behind the lens, it can be used with any of the available Crossbow lenses.

RX Carriers

Some commonly asked questions about the ESS Crossbow shooting glasses:

What does the ESS Crossbow package come with?

Will the RX inserts work for bi-focals or tri-focals?

What RX insert is best for me?

How do I change the lenses?

How do I mount the RX carrier in the glasses?

Do the RX carriers come with dummy lenses that my eye care professional can use as a lens template or guide?

What kind of warranty do these glasses come with?

Are the lenses polarized?

Can these glasses be worn for any other uses besides shooting?

What does the ESS ICE package come with?

The ESS Crossbow 2X package comes with:

  • A black Crossbow™ frame with a Clear lens
  • A black Crossbow™ frame with a Smoke Gray lens
  • A rugged zippered hard case
  • A micro-fiber pouch
  • A snap-on elastic retention strap
  • An ESS sticker
  • A Crossbow instruction booklet
  • Retail packaging

Will the RX inserts work for bi-focals or tri-focals?

Yes and no. It will depend on the required correction (does it exceed the maximum correction level for the RX carrier you selected?), and the type of bi or tri-focal selected. Traditional bi/tri-focals and the newer transitional style bi/tri-focals will work just fine if the correction is within the limits.

What RX insert is best for me?

That's really a decision based on personal preferences, needs, and the needed correction level. If you need a correction level beyond, +/- 6, you'll need to stick with the nylon frame. If you prefer a frameless RX, then the wire carrier is the way to go. If you need something really durable for extreme use, then the nylon carrier is the better choice.

How do I change the lenses?

The lenses are very easy to change and don't require any tools. 1) Gently lift up the DedboltTM lens lock in the center of the frame to disengage the lens, 2) then pull the lens down and out of the center of the frame to create separation between the lens and frame, 3) now gently flex the frame backwards while simultaneously pulling the lens forward in order to pull lens tabs out of the frame grooves on both sides.

How do I mount the RX carrier in the glasses?

The RX carrier comes with a specialized nosepiece to accommodate both the lens and RX carrier. To utilize the RX carrier, simply insert it into the designated slot on the included nosepiece, and then mount the nosepiece up into the lens. It's very easy to insert the RX carrier in or out as needed. Take a look at the diagram below as an example:

Do the RX carriers come with dummy lenses that my eye care professional can use as a lens template or guide?

The wire RX carrier comes with dummy lenses that can be used as a lens template. The new nylon RX carrier does not have dummy lens inserts, but your eye care professional can use the outline of the RX carrier as a template.

What kind of warranty do these glasses come with?

In addition to our 45 day money back guarantee, the ESS glasses come with a manufacturer's warranty of 1 year from the date of purchase. This warranty only covers manufacturers defects.

Are the lenses polarized?

No, the standard ESS lenses are not polarized, and here's why: The polarization process somewhat degrades the lens strength and impact resistance rating. Although polarization is a nice benefit, the manufacturer did not feel that it was worth the risk to sacrificing the strength and integrity of the lens.

Can these glasses be worn for any other uses besides shooting?

Absolutely. They have a number of uses in addition to shooting:

  • They can worn as everyday sunglasses (including prescription sunglasses)
  • Worn as safety glasses when needed
  • Protective eye wear for motorcycling

In reality, you can pretty much wear them for anything. The list is really endless.

NOTE - The glasses themselves are covered under our 45 day money back guarantee. However, if you purchase a set of the RX carriers and have an eye care professional insert a set of prescription lenses in either the wire or the nylon RX carrier, they are not covered under our 45 day money back guarantee; and are non-refundable.
