Browning

The Browning Arms Company was founded by John Moses Browning in Ogden, Utah, back in 1878 when he was just twenty years old. He started off as a gunsmith with his father Jonathan but soon became a prominent inventor who developed many different firearms, including the Winchester rifle and Colt 45 pistol. However, the Colt 1911 will be remembered as Browning's most well-known design, which was created while working at the Colt Manufacturing Company under Samuel Colt). John Browning would design guns up until his death at age 65 on November 26th, 1926, from leukemia.

Browning's designs have been used by several other weapon makers, including:

  • Colt
  • Winchester
  • Remington
  • FN

Browning Arms Company is a company that specializes in the manufacturing and selling of firearms, although they also produce fishing gear, gun safes, and knives. They have been making firearms for over a hundred years and are one of America's most well-known gun companies. Their main headquarters is located in Morgan, UT, but they also have offices worldwide, including Italy, New Zealand, and Japan. The Browning Company is currently owned and operated by FN Herstal.

Browning is best known for its Hi-Power pistol, one of the world's most popular and duplicated pistols. The Hi-Power is a single-action handgun that is chambered in either 9mm or .40 caliber. While John Browning is credited with the actual design of the pistol, he passed away several years before the design was finalized and put into production. FN Herstal opted to discontinue production of the Hi-Power in 2018.

Currently, Browning Arms' most popular pistol is the 1911-380 ACP model, which is available in many variants. Like the Colt 1911 and the Hi-Power, the 1911-380 is a single action design with an external hammer and ambidextrous thumb safety. In addition to the .380 version of this model, Browning also offers a 1911-22 version that is chambered in 22LR.

The only other pistol model that Browning is still offering is the Buck Mark, which is a semi-automatic handgun series chambered in 22LR.
