FN 509 Tactical With Threaded Barrel
Building on the success of the standard FN 509 series, FN America introduced the FN 509 Tactical model in July of 2018. The Tactical model featured a number of “upgrades” over the standard FN 509 model and is marketed as an optics ready 9mm pistol designed to target the tactical pistol and home defense market.

The 509 Tactical model features the following features:
- A threaded barrel with a 1/2X28 thread pitch with an O ring
- Suppressor level Trijicon 3-dot night sights that are tall enough to work with most any RMR or MRO optic on the market.
- FN’s patented Low-Profile Optics Mounting System that is designed to accept 9 of the most popular commercial RMR optics with the ability to mount others without milling the FN 509 slide. The package includes base plate adapters for the 10 most popular RMR and red dot models.
Currently the FN 509T is offered in two versions:
- An FDE version
- A black version
The FN 509-T features two different backstrap options that will fit most hands, and the backstraps are easy to change out. The 509T ships with two (2) 24 round magazines and one (1) 17 round magazine, or, if you reside in a magazine restrictive state, the Tactical model ships with 3 (3) ten round magazine.
The Low-Profile Optics Mounting system come with adapter plates and hardware that is designed to work out of the box with the following RMR/RMD optic models:
- Burris FastFire 3
- Leuopold DeltaPoint Pro
- Trijicon RMR
- JP Enterprises JPoint
- Vortex Venom
- Vortex Viper
- Vortex Razor
- Doctor Optic
- C-More STS2
Now it’s possible that the adapter plates that are included with this version of the 509 may also fit other RMR models on the market as well. However, if you don’t have an interest in running an RMR on your 509T, that’s no problem as it performs flawlessly without one as well.
However, should you decide to go with an RMR, you’ll appreciate the factory installed suppressor height sights. Those Trijicon night sights are more than tall enough to allow the shooter to use with the sights or the RMR (commonly called co-witness where you can see or use both as you like), and the sights are more than tall enough to be visible over most commercially available 9mm cans on the market.

FN 509 Tactical Outside the Waistband Holsters
The larger size of the 509 Tactical makes outside the waistband or belt holster styles the more popular holster style. Most belt holster models mount to the belt using belt slots, and most of the models seen below will cover the threaded barrel as well. Depending on the specific holster style, OWB holsters may ride at a forward cant or straight up and down on the belt. OWB holsters can be an excellent option for open carry, range use, or general carry. Some models can also be equipped with an added retention strap for extra security. 509 Tactical IWB Holsters
Whie the overall size and shape of the 509T doesn't make it ideal for IWB, concealment, or concealed carry, we do offer some inside the waistband holster options for the this version of the 509. Most of these IWB holster models attach to the belt using either a single clip or dual clips. Like the OWB holster models, the inside the waistband models also cover the entire threaded barrel. FN 509 Paddle Holsters
Paddle holsters are another possible option for the FN 509T. The paddle design is easier to put on or take off the belt compared to a traditional belt holster. The paddle holsters that we carry can be configured to ride in a forward cant or straight up and down (commonly called a 0 cant). Here are some of the more commonly asked questions that we see regarding FN 509 Tactical holster options:
Will the FNH FN 509 Tactical model fit into a holster made for the standard FN 509?
For the most part, the FN 509 Tactical has different dimensions compared to the standard FN 509, so the Tactical version won't fit in a gun holster made for the basic 509. Follow this link if you need an FN 509 holster.
Can you point me to your kydex holster models for the FN 509T?
Unfortunately, we do not currently offer any kydex holsters. Right now, we only carry leather holster options.
Do you carry a FN 509 tactical holster with light?
Yes, we offer a holster to fit an FN 509 Tactical with most of the popular tactical light brands mounted. Light brands supported include:
- Crimson Trace
- Olight
- Streamlight
- Surefire

Do you have a holster for FN 509 tactical with RMR and light? I have an FN 509T with a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro mounted on it, along with a Surefire X300 light.
Yes, we do. Most any of the holster models listed below are available in a version to fit that 509 Tactical with a light mounted and equipped with an RMR or red dot sight.

Weird question here. As the magazines on for the FN 509 Tactical are 24 rounds and much longer than most standard magazines, do you carry any a mag carrier or magazine pouch for the 24 round FN 509 Tactical mags?
Yes, we can. We can offer the mag carriers for the FN 509 Tactical in the 10 round versions, 17 round versions, or the 24 round models. If you wanted to order one, you would need to specify the round capacity in the order notes section.
Where are your holsters for the FN 509 Compact pistol with a threaded barrel?
We do offer holsters for the FN 509 Compact Tactical (which has the TB), and those holsters can be seen here.
I have both the FN 509 and the 509 Tactical model. Is there one holster that will fit both pistols?
Technically, you could buy a holster made for the FN 509 Tactical and the standard 509 would also fit it. Of course, there would be some extra holster at the end as the standard 509 is shorter than the Tactical model.

I’m really confused here. You say the holsters listed on this page are made for the FN 509 Tactical, but, when I look at the holsters below, none of those models appear to be made for the Tactical model? Why?
So, the images of the holsters shown below are just example models of various pistols and revolvers so you can get an idea of what the holster looks like. It’s nearly impossible to show an exact picture of each holster model made for a specific gun model. That being said, any holster listed below is available in a version to fit the FN 509 Tactical. However, we understand that some customers might be hesitant to purchase a holster if they can’t see examples made specifically for their pistol or revolver, so we've included the images above of holsters that were made specifically for the FN 509 Tactical with a threaded barrel.
