S&W M&P Bodyguard .380

The original S&W Bodyguard .380 series was introduced by S&W in 2011 and featured an integrated Insight laser. In 2014, S&W rolled the Bodyguard series into the popular M&P line of pistols, and released a new version called the S&W M&P Bodyguard .380.

The new M&P Bodyguard was available in 2 versions:

#1 – Without a laser

#2 – With a laser

The new models with an integrated laser features a Crimson Trace laser versus the Insight laser that was used on the original non-M&P Bodyguard .380 versions.

The M&P Bodyguard model utilizes the fish scale slide grip and textured grip style found on the existing M&P pistol line. Unlike the rest of the M&P series, the M&P Bodyguard is not a striker fired model, but uses a double action only hammer firing system.

A number of law enforcement agencies prohibit the use of lasers mounted on pistols for a various reasons. In order for the new M&P Bodyguard to be eligible for off duty or backup carry, S&W introduced the M&P Bodyguard .380 without a laser version into the market first. The optional integrated laser model followed a short time later.

Anytime a hadngun manufacturer introduces an uograded version of a pistol with the same or similar name, there's always some confusion about it. As such, here are some of the frequently asked questions we receive regarding holsters for the S&W M&P Bodyguard .380 pistol:

#1 – I’m confused about which Bodyguard .380 version I have and want to make sure I get a holster that fits. How can I tell the difference between the versions?

The original Bodyguard .380 version has an Insight laser mounted in the frame and is marked with Insight lettering. In addition, the laser activation button is a gray color. The M&P Bodyguard .380 version has the M&P designation etched on the slide and the laser activation button is bright red.

#2 – If I have the original Bodyguard .380 model, do you offer holsters for it?

Yes. The holster models to fit that version can be found by following this link.

#3 – Will the M&P version of the Bodyguard .380 fit a holster made for the older non-M&P version?

No, it won’t. Although both models look similar, the frame on both the M&P versions (with or without a laser) is different so they require a holster made specifically for it. The non-lasered version of the M&P model will fit a holster designed for the lasered version, but the fit isn’t great. We suggest buying a holster that is specifically molded to the M&P version you have.

#4 – Does Don Hume offer any holsters to fit the M&P Bodyguard .380 with or without the laser?

No. At this time, Don Hume is only offering models designed for the original Bodyguard .380, and those models won’t fit the M&P versions with or without a laser.
