The newer version of the 650 is a re-introduction of a previous Taurus model called the 650 CIA, which was offered from 2001 to 2017. The original 650 CIA was only available with a 2” barrel. In early 2025, Taurus reintroduced the 650 series with a slight twist, offering this series in models with either a 2-inch or 3-inch barrel.
Like the original 650 CIA model, the new 650 is also a hammerless, 5-shot revolver that is only available in .357 Magnum.
From a holster perspective, the 3” appears to be gaining popularity for concealed carry, general carry, and general outdoor use. The 3” barrel offers slightly better accuracy but isn’t so long that it makes the revolver unwieldy. Plus, the .357 Mag chambering is potentially potent enough for bear defense.

Unfortunately, the Ruger SP-101 and Taurus 650 have very different dimensions, so the answer is no. The 650 is closer in size to an S&W J frame but won’t fit a form-fitted holster for a J frame 3” either.
Although the 650 models are hammerless, any of the MTR Custom holsters listed below can be equipped with an optional retention strap, which can be added during the ordering process.
