The Taurus 942 is a lightweight revolver chambered in .22 LR or .22 WMR, and it requires a gun holster that holds it securely without added bulk while being comfortable to carry or wear. Let’s take a look at all the leather holster options we have for the 942 revolvers with 2-inch or 3-inch barrels.
First, here’s a quick overview of the 942:
Introduced at the 2020 SHOT Show, the Taurus 942 is a replacement option for the older Taurus Model 94. While the Model 94 was only available in a .22LR, the 942 series is available in .22LR and .22 Magnum. The 942 is a double-action/single-action revolver with an 8-shot capacity in either caliber.
In addition to being chambered in .22 LR and .22 WMR, the 942 revolver series is also available in 2” and 3” barrel lengths. Both the 2” and 3” versions are also available in a blued (almost black color) or stainless-steel finish.
In terms of holsters, our top-selling holster styles for the 942 models with a 2” barrel have been a mix of inside the waistband styles and some pocket carry styles. The most popular holster models are the MTR Custom Adversary IWB and the MTR Front Pocket models.
With the 942 models with a 3” barrel, our top-selling holster models have been the MTR Small Belt Slide and the MTR Belt Scabbard. Another popular model for the 942, available in either barrel length, is the MTR Dual Carry, which can be worn as an IWB or OWB holster as needed.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the page to look at holsters, you’ll likely notice that most of the example images for the holsters all seem to be built for a semi-automatic pistol. You’re correct, as these images are provided for example purposes only. Should you decide to order one of those holsters, you’ll receive a leather holster that was manufactured specifically to fit the 942 revolvers.
Here are some of the more common holster-related questions we encounter involving the Taurus 942:
This is a question we see frequently. Although both revolver models are similar in size and shape, the 942 will not fit (at least not properly) into a form-fitted holster made for a S&W J-frame. It won’t fit due to dimensional differences between the two revolver models.
Almost all of the holster models displayed below can be ordered with an optional retention strap (also called a thumb break or security strap) added to the holster. The thumb break option can be added during the ordering process.
Unfortunately, we do not currently have an ankle holster that will fit the Taurus 942.
That’s an excellent question. The short answer is no because the cylinder size on the 22LR models and the 22 Magnum models is the same. Therefore, a holster designed for a 942 will fit both the .22 caliber version and the 22 Magnum version.
All the leather holsters displayed below are avaiable in a version to fit the Taurus 942 with a 2 inch or 3 inch barrel.
